It makes you think doesn't it?

Do you think it affects your responsibilities?

Remembering to say thank you to God...

In Luke 17, we learn about Jesus healing 10 lepers. How many came back to say thank you?
What does this teach us?

Justice?

The yellow area was known as the Kingdom of Judah over 3 thousand years ago.

Our assembly today is about Isaiah - a prophet who lived in Judah.

Why was Judah talking of justice? What did he mean when he said:

16 Wash and make yourselves clean.
                              Take your evil deeds out of my sight;
stop doing wrong.
17 Learn to do right; seek justice.
Defend the oppressed.[a]
Take up the cause of the fatherless;
plead the case of the widow.

(Isaiah 1:16-17)

Harvest Festivals

Harvest assembly on September 23rd began with an amazing collection of foods to be shared among the local community.

We gave thanks for food and reflected on our responsibility to appreciate God's gifts and not to waste food.

At Harvest festival in Church on Sunday we joined the congregation in songs and prayers of thanks, and brought our own bit of Harvest rock n roll!

Give us each day our daily bread

"Give us each day our daily bread." comes from the book of Luke Chapter 11 Verse 3.

At first glimpse - it looks as though Jesus is talking about our meals and hunger. But is he talking about more? Food can nourish us and keep us healthy. Jesus is concerned about our spiritual nourishment. What does this mean?

Is there a link between Luke 11 and Joel 2.26? What do yo think it might be?

Harvest celebrations

It's that time of year when we celebrate Harvest. When we remember all the good things God has provided for us. One of the things we do to help us thank God for Harvest is sing songs. One of our favourites is Autumn Days. Below you can read the words and sing along with the piano accompaniment.

Worship songs

The children are really enjoying the new style worship songs that we have been singing in assembly and they are really enhancing our collective worship.

This song - Blessed be Your Name, is another song by Matt Redman

The Emmaus Road

This story comes from Luke 24 in the Bible.

Why do you think this is so important to Christians? We will be discussing this is assemblies this week.

Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us...

Our theme of forgiveness continue this week.

How often do we say or think these things:

I hate you!     I'll get you!!    I'll get even with you!!

The Lord's Prayer reminds us to "forgive those who trespass against us". Can you do this?

In assembly we will hear about an extraordinary man called Gordon Wilson. Gordon lost his daughter when a bomb exploded near to them in 1987. Most people would be filled with hate if this happened to them but Gordon forgave the people who did this. Here is a quote from a book about him:

" To the astonishment of listeners, Wilson went on to add, "But I bear no ill will. I bear no grudge. Dirty sort of talk is not going to bring her back to life. She was a great wee lassie. She loved her profession. She was a pet. She's dead. She's in heaven and we shall meet again. I will pray for these men tonight and every night."

Do you have the strength to forgive? When might you be able to follow Gordon Wilson's incredible example?

Here I Am To Worship

Here is an uplifting worship song called 'Here I Am To Worship'. It talks about worshipping God because he died for our sins.

This version is sung by Michael W Smith.

Jason Robinson

The man who scores this try is a Christian. Jason Robinson is is his name.

In his autobiography he tells us that he "had everything" - he had money and friends and success.

So why did he become a Christian do you think?

Paul's Conversion... Forgiveness In Action...

We watched this in assembly. Isn't the forgiveness that God shows breathtaking?

What does this mean for us and our everyday lives?

The Story of Zacchaeus the Tax Collector

2000 years ago - tax-collectors were not very popular to say the least. They were often seen as greedy and mean. The complete opposite to how Jesus wants us to live!

Imagine the fuss it must have caused when Jesus said he was going to stay at the house of such a man! His disciples would have been thinking: "Why spend time with a person who is greedy and mean?" Have a look at Luke 19 in the Bible to read the story.

You could also watch this video, think about our assemblies so far this term and consider forgiveness. Can you see why Jesus spent time with this man?

Trusting God...

Mary is very important to many Christians. She trusted God on many occasions.

Here are some pictures to help you think about when this trust was happening:

Do you find it easy to trust God? Can you imagine what Mary must have gone through to trust God the way she did?

Goodbye Mr Treeby!

Our last assembly of the term was a happy and sad event. Reception class delighted us with their amazing chick song reminding us all of the opportunities for new beginnings that Easter brimgs.

And then the sad part! We had to say goodbye to Mr. Treeby who is retiring to Devon. We are all very fond of Mr Treeby who has been our much respected vicar and spiritual guide for many years. We all wish him the very, very best in his New Beginning!

Holy Week

This is a bit of a strange week at school because although it's not the last week before Easter - it is the last week before the Easter holidays!

So - we will be looking at Holy Week - the most important time of the year for Christians (even though it's not Holy Week just yet!)

Shrove Tuesday

Today is Shrove Tuesday - but what does that mean?

Well assembly should help but here is a link for you to find out more...

Resolving conflict and bringing peace...

  • What might be happening in this picture?
  • How is the child feeling?
  • Who could bring peace to this conflict?

We also shared a letter from a soldier called Edmund Hulse who fought in the First World War. We talked about the conflict that he was part of. Is war ever justified? How can we resolve problems of that magnitude?

Settling Differences and Keeping the Peace

Sometimes we have disagreements, it's part of life unfortunately. Often, you will hear adults saying things like:
"It's how you deal with it that really matters..."

What does that mean? Can the Bible help us with this? Of course it can, have a look at this video.

Assemblies this week will follow this...

Does peace have to mean quiet?

Reflections

Class assembly is a special time for reflection; a time when we share thoughts and ask questions about ourselves, other people, the world and beyond.

This week we have been reflecting on the miracles of nature that we experience every day in the world around us.
Year 2 made a collage of natural materials. Every child selected something and placed it carefully into the composition.

''It is made up of things trhat make us go Wow!'' ........... Alfie.

''We should call it 'The Spirit Of God's Art' '' ........ Ben.

Using Our Senses - Monet

Claude Monet (a very famous painter) suffered from cataracts (this made it very difficult for him to see). When he had them removed he began to paint with very vivid colours - as if he had begun to appreciate them even more!

What a shame it took a problem like cataracts for this to happen. We must make sure we enjoy God's wonderful creation using ALL of our senses all the time.

Creativity & The Creation

This week we are looking at the miracles of the Creation. We will be asking questions and reflecting on how the world began and all its creatures were created - hopefully this will give us all lots to think about and time to reflect on how amazing God's world is!

Psalm 8

Psalm 8  is about the wonderful things that God has created. Just looking around Blandford and the surrounding area - I think you'd agree it's all worth celebrating.

Values: Creativity

This week's assemblies kick-off our new Creativity theme.

We looked at the artwork of Janet Weight-Reed who was asked to produce some art for her church.
Her paintings are beautiful and remind us that 'creativity' is a wonderful way of sharing emotion and feeling without actually using words.
We looked at two beautiful verses from the Song of Solomon in the Old Testament:

11 See! The winter is past;
the rains are over and gone.
12 Flowers appear on the earth;
the season of singing has come,
the cooing of doves
   is heard in our land.

Look at the beautiful artwork this inspired:
