This week the Blandford Parish Church has been decorated in a very special way.
Local schools and organisations have all come together to prepare a Christmas tree on the theme of a given Christmas carol.
Our tree reflects the words of 'Once in Royal David's City' and also includes a sound bite of us singing the carol!
Do visit if you can, the Church looks wonderful!

Sing Christingle!
On the evening of Thursday 8th December, friends and families gathered in school for our Christingle service.
The children had been busy during the day making up the Christingles.
The Christingle reminds us of Jesus, The Light of the World,

The Christingle reminds us of Jesus, The Light of the World,
The lights were dimmed, we held our candles and sang in celebration of the birth of the Lord Jesus.
It was very special.

Blandford St Mary Remembers
On the eleventh hour, of the eleventh day, of the eleventh month Blandford St Mary children and staff stood together to remember and say thank you to the brave men and women who have served our country, many of whom made great sacrifices so that we can live in freedom and peace.
At the going down of the sun
And in the morning,
We will remember them.

And in the morning,
We will remember them.

Harvest time!
Welcome everyone to our new school year!
On Friday we celebrated our Harvest Festival with friends and families at school. We gave thanks to God for richness of the world around us.
All week we had been collecting food for to share with our local community through the Blandford food bank. The response was brilliant and our harvest table was heaving!

It's Our Move! By Year 6
IT'S YOUR MOVE
Today Pippa Rossiter came to talk to us about any concerns we might have about moving on to the upper school, and how we can manage our feelings and be positive about change.
We completed a number of activities which gave us the opportunity to open up about any worries.
Jamie felt he had put his worries in the tablet and had watched them disappear!
Jessica wrote her concerns down, put them in the water and watched them open up and release. She found it very moving.
Pippa reminded us that wherever we go and whatever we do we can always know that God is with us.

Journey Day
March 22nd 2016 was a very special day at Blandford St Mary! It was a day we linked with the church communities of Blandford St Mary and The Blandford Parish Church. The aim was to explore Christian values, concepts and questions through a series of cross curricular activities, reflections and fun!
The theme for the day was 'Stepping out on the journey'. It began with Reverend Triffitt leading a Collective Worship introducing the values of Trust and Faith and the Bible story of Jesus inviting Peter to walk with Him on the water.
Then we worked in mixed age groups. Everyone in Key stage one had the opportunity to explore the story further, making and using props to retell the story and thinking about what Peter might be feeling. We created a big picture of the story and thought about what gave Peter the courage to step out. We made our own boats out of recycled materials and put sails on our boats showing the values we would want to take with us on our journeys.
In Key Stage two we also enjoyed working with our friends in different classes. We re read the story and recreated it through art and drama. We considered the key feelings of Jesus, Peter and the disciples at the different turning points of the story.
We explored how we come across turning points in our own lives and reflected on what gives us strength and where Christians draw strength from. We thought about the values we consider important and how we use these to protect ourselves in our own life journeys.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone from the local churches who helped to make this day so special, thank you.

At the end of the day Pippa Rossiter, our Church Support leader, and Father Joe, helped us to reflect on the key moments in the story and why it is important. Many of us felt that Peter had to be brave, trust in himself but keep his eyes on Jesus, and perhaps we should do this too!
We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone from the local churches who helped to make this day so special, thank you.

Carol Service
On Friday 11th December we came together to celebrate the birth of Jesus through readings and carols. Every class performed a carol that they had prepared and the readings were confident and moving.
